This donut is a real burnout

Last weekend I replaced the donut gasket between the exhaust manifold flange and exhaust pipe flange. It didn't seem to be working too well, so today I checked it out. After 7 days it had burned to a crisp! Is this normal? Anyway, the donut is now gone, replaced by a 2" ID to 2" OD adaptor pipe. It fits perfectly between the flanges and seals up tight. If anybody is having a leak you might try something like this.

This donut is a real burnout!

Did you anchor your exhaust pipe to close to the manifold? If there isn't some flex at that joint it will cause the O ring to blow out because the joint it's to ridged and the ring is the weakest point... Just a thought... Tedd

Tedd,

The burned-out donut gasket is what served as the o-ring. Is there another o-ring in the exhaust system? Anyway, it's quite possible that what I rigged up might be too rigid. I'm so sick of exhaust leaks that I'm willing to take the risk. So far it seems to be working. Thanks for your thoughts.
