Mysterious valve covers
I know this is an olds site but I have a set of pontiac valve covers and I know that olds and pontiac engines are close to the same. I have a set of aluminum pontiac valve covers that say they are for super duty heads. I am told that pontiac heads only use 4 bolts but these use 8. I will post pics as soon as I can.

Olds/Pontiac are completely different, the only interchangeable part is the rotor, and engine oil.
Ok, the starter too.
Post the pic's anyway, we would love to help you with this dilemma.
The Super Duty valve covers may be for the Chevy style heads, which would be different yet.

The only pontiac it might be for to would be a 403 olds moter or they did make some overhead cam motors in the early days the 73 74 sd had same as any other pontiac and so did the 60's one's that I have seen

I can hopefully get pics up tomorrow. They are a cast aluminum valve cover that say pontiac and also have the pontiac symbol on them. they are a good quality valve cover as they are about 1/4 inch thick. I want to sell them but someone told me that they have never seen a Big Block pontiac that used 8 bolt valve covers

Sorry about the pontiac and olds being close to the same. I thought they might be because you have chevy and then BOP. But that must be just for trannys. I found some on ebay but it didn't help much. The add said that they were Big Chief valve covers and mine are in WAY better shape than his. I am going to be out in the area of a engine builder I know so I am going to swing in there and see if I can try them on some heads to see what they fit.

i just got back from the machine shop and the heads were way to big for the big block pontiac heads he had. They were even too big for the big block chevy heads. He thinks they are for some after-market bracket racing heads. Or something like brodix heads that are made for bigger parts valve train parts.

I figured that when you said Super Duty covers with 8 bolts, you had that different monster.
Do you have the heads, too?
The "SUPER DUTY" head as mentioned is a part developed by Pontiac for Big Block Chevrolet Mark IV, and Bowtie engines up to 600 cubic inches. Port volumes were from 365 to 460 cc's in the intake port (Now I REALLY don't want to hear anyone complaining about BBO port volume being too much for a 350 Olds). These were developed in the late 80's, to early 90's, and were, at the time, the best thing available.
Here are some part #'s for these castings:
10045427 460 cc intake, spread port head
10049875 376 cc small spread race port head
10093386 365 cc small port head
10093385 (raw-unmachined) 420 cc
10093378 machined 420 cc rounded runner intake, race head
10093383 raw- unmachined 420 version of above
Your valve covers should have part number 12341643, they will only work with the above castings, because of their unique 8 bolt design. These heads WILL go on a BB Chevy Mark IV, and Bowtie blocks, but they are very expensive to build, because of the many 1 off parts needed, and for the high rpm short block they will be bolted to.
I say you ought to put them on E-bay.
Most guys here will not have seen these before (don't take that as a negative, guys).
