Angry Engine Builder Recommendations/Sleeves

New here...Sounds like I spun a bearing after only 4k miles on a rebuilt 455. It's a numbers matching motor in a W30 and already bored to it's limits, so I would need to have it sleeved. I'm in San Diego, but am willing to ship the short block anywhere if need be.

I cut the motor right away, but definitly a knock and copper in the filter, so I am assuming it's a full rebuild or could I have gotten lucky?

So looking for suggestions:
Bernard Mondello is out of Corona is no longer building motors so there out.

Thanks, TD

You won't know if the cylinder walls are damaged until you open it up, but the debris comes from the bearings not the walls. You might luck out and just need a hone.

Yup, compression or leak down test first and borescope the cylinders. Much info can be gained through tests and inspection.

This situation is an example of why to machine/remove only the minimum amount to make surfaces good. Don't bore .060 when .020 or .030 will suffice. To the OP hopefully you don't need cylinder work or if you do there is enough material left to avoid sleeving.

Good luck!!!

If there are scratches etc in the walls then get a custom .062 over piston or whatever. Not the end of the world.

I have a friend in the Grand Terrace area who might be able to help you out. Not a Olds specific guy but has a shop where he has built lots of nice hot rods. I will talk to him and see if he would take it on and give you his contact info if he does. You are not necessarily done, knocking like Joe said is usually bearings.
