68 oil fill cap color?

I'm getting ready to do some engine compartment detailing on my '68 442. I just realized that the oil fill cap currently installed is from a later model GM. I've ordered the correct cap, but can't find any info on whether it should be left natural or painted Olds 400 bronze. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in the engine photos that come up in a Google search. Looking for advice on whether the cap should be painted or left natural steel. Thanks!

Engines were painted with the fill cap installed, so they are engine color.
