371/394 4 bbl intake: '59 D88 2 Dr

I found a fairly fine 59 D88 2 door sedan with a telltale sign light blue 371. The owner says the guy he purchased it from says the 371 with a 2 bbl was bored to 394, a 4 barrel intake was added and all the internals were built to 394 specs. About $3000 was spent.

Q? Is it possible to built out a 371 to 394 specs and expect the same results. Owner says the Slim Jim has been rebuilt as well.

First off, the Slim Jim came out in ‘61 so that says how much the owner knows about these cars.

Be careful ! In 1959 and 1960, there was a "371", but NOT the same "371" as in 1957 and 1958. The major difference be1959 and 1960 "371" was the bore size which was cast into the block. 4" was on that "371" and 4 1/8 was on the 394. Each block could be bored 1/8" O.S.
The 1957 and 1958 "371" had TWO bolts in the center of the valve covers to hold them on. The later 1959 to 1964 engines had TEN bolts around the perimeter e covers on.
I think the heads would be #18. (1957 were #14 and 1958 were #16)
As I recall, the 1959 and 1960 "371" was painted a greenish aqua color. If your engine is "blue", it has been repainted.

My bad (I'm color blind). The engine block is aqua. I'm just not familiar that the 371 could be bored to a 394. The car's exterior leaves a little be desired. It is base coated but no clear. The interior however is the cat's pajamas. Also both front and rear bumpers spent last fall at Tri City Plating.

Anyone know what costs it would take to do VintageAir?

Since this is an engine thread, here are those:

And the interior which is the bomb

Are you going to install the A/C system? If so look around I used Old Air Products on my 64 F-85 build, great to work with and saved a few $$$
