1971 ‘H’ head question
Machine shop called today questioning my Ferrea stainless 2.075 intake valves (F5142) which I provided for a rebuild. Says intake valve has a 45 degree seat angle, and the factory heads are a 30 degree ? Is this an issue?

If your camshaft is a factory type, have the machinest face the valves to 30 degrees to match the seats; or return the valves and get 30 degree valves. If you are using a fast ramp performance camshaft you may want to have the machinest cut or grind the seats to 45 degrees to match the valves. I'm sure others will have an opinion as well.

Todd,
I dont think he will able to cut a 45 deg seat in the head, there simply is not enough metal to do it without really sinking the valves in a bunch. Either that or he would have to put seats in them. It doesnt look like Ferrea has a 30 degree valve and I doubt that there is enough material on the F5142's to cut them to 30. Not sure who has 30 deg stainless valves.
Are you switching to an adjustable valve train ?? Only reason I ask is the Ferrea valves are a little different overall length compared to the factory ones and you might have to mix and match pushrods to get lifter preload correct if you stay with the factory non adjustable rockers.
