1972 442 ? about mysterious holes
Image attached showing holes right below the back window. It looks like a factory hole and both side - measurements are exact on both sides. I don't think there is a trim that goes that low?
Not sure just kinda odd?

not sure! Thanks for your help - Does anybody have pictures of a car with a top and trim in that area?

I think it is for a vinyl top molding, I looked in my assembly manual and it shows a piece there, looked at a pic too. They do usually make the roof rust out, maybe it was removed years ago or was in a good climate. I have a Vista Cruiser and their main problem is rust around the roof and side windows.

I was looking around evilbay and noticed a set of those moldings too.

Could also have been a painted roof car. Those used the same moldings. Look on your data plate and see if it has two codes for paint, such as U11 L75, or a letter code which would indicate vinyl roof.
That set on ebay is nice and funinarizona is a good seller. That's western stuff so it'll be doggone near perfect. Next ??- does your decklid still have the molding at the bottom of the rear window? You'll need that for complete molding installation. You'll also need to reinstall the molding clip studs for the long straight pieces.
Meaning, if you don't plan to do a VT or two-tone paint, it might be simpler to weld up those holes and metal finish them

Sam, double check your source. My 72 CSM shows B is black for both vinyl and convertible top.
Roof color didn't necessarily match interior. You could have a black or white top with any exterior color or interior trim.
TR 940 is black vinyl interior and could be either bench or bucket. A51 codes as Strato-bucket seats. 75 is Matador Red and B is black vinyl roof cover. 01C- car was built 3rd week January 1972. 074 is a Fisher body code that is probably specific to Arlington TX (R) assembly plant. It indicates something that had to be done at the body plant to accommodate an option installation.
Give us the first 7 digits of your VIN and we can tell you body style, engine that was originally installed and assembly plant. Should readsomething like 3G87_2RXXXXXX. Space is the engine code.
