OAI Air Cleaner "OLDSMOBILE" Embossed Lettering

Question on the embossed Oldsmobile lettering on the air cleaner. Is that suppose to be black(plain) or should it have a silver or chrome like finish on the lettering?

Black, some marketing pictures in the day have shown it in white. This question seems to come up a couple of times a year. Nothing definitively says either way but from what I remember but most concur it came black.

The one I have date coded 70 seems plain and doesn't look like it ever had any
color on it silver or otherwise. I have seen some that were painted though.

I've owned four original 70-72 OAI cars and all were plain black.

As noted, several of the early cars in press photos had the letters painted, but production cars did not. As a result, many people back in the day painted them. A correct restoration would not have them painted.
