fender antenna install?

68 442 convertible

What do I need to remove to install a new fender antenna ( cable, mast and fastening hardware )

Does the fender need to come off?

Merry Christmas all...
Ben

Its a very easy install, just an adjustable wrench. Are you replacing an existing one?

I don't remember where the antenna cable feeds through. Sometimes you need a flexible wire taped to the cable to feed through the hole in the body. There is a folding base that is attached to the bottom of the mast that tightens against the underside of the fender when you tighten the mounting nut. Route the cable to the radio and plug it in.

The cable on A-body cars typically routs from below the fender into the top of the cowl cavity and penetrates through the top of the firewall with a seal/grommet.

66 chevelle pics: (no firewall penetration here because the car originally had a rear antenna)

This is a page out of the '69 assembly manual but it's exactly the same as for the '68 model year. Although there is a bit of a difficulty factor, you should be able to install the antenna with the fender on the car.

Thanks Randy, I think I've got the same page in my 68 manual.
