Fuel Fill Issues
I have a 67 442 that I am having trouble filling the tank. I replaced the original tank that had the bottom caved in and the new tank is very slow to take fuel. The vent hoses are open and routed above the fuel filler. The original tank would leak fuel out of the vent hoses on a hard acceleration after filling, not so with the new tank. When it is close to empty, the fuel will shut off after only about 10 gallons, then I have to manually fill it letting air escape out of the fill neck periodically. All advice appreciated.

X2 Your are trying to fill the tank to quickly... Air is not escaping fast enough to allow the fuel to continue flow into the tank... In the case of my 66, If I try filling to quickly, fuel will back up and spill from the filler neck as well as kick the pump off...

OK, I now fill it slowly, although I think the vents should allow air to escape fast enough to fill it faster. That being said, I have a problem of fuel spilling out of the vents while driving if the tank is full. Is there supposed to be something in the end of the hoses to keep that from happening?

Up through model year '68 the vent tubes had a sort of spongy material in them. The piece shown was placed in use starting in the '69 model year. That piece works good on my '69 and I'm going to use one on my '68 as well.
