New bumpers or rechrome?

I sent my bumpers into the chrome shop and they told me they're junk. I noticed alot of price differences on the new repro bumpers. They vary from 269.00 to over 400.00. Does anyone know if they are acually different? or which ones I should avoid. Thanks for any advice.
Dave

Were they rusted through ?
Just asking did not have that problem they re-chromed mine. I did one 7yrs ago, finally got to put it on the car a few months ago. I took it back off before sending the car to paint, and noticed a small spot were it is coming off. The company no longer does bumpers. (I wonder why?)

Bumpers

Dave, the 1971-72 front bumpers are common and I've got several solid cores. I expect other guys have those too. I don't remember where your located but you might consider posting a parts wanted ad. Rear bumpers with cutouts are much harder to find. But I like the idea of using GM and having a good shop replate it. My 2 cents. John

IMHO I would get a rechrome on your factory core if it can be saved or find one and get it done esp. for your car. I have a repop for mine and the metal is much lighter gauge and the chrome isn't spectacular. I'm not sure of the brand as I got it off a guy with a 442 who took it back off of his car in favor of a rechromed factory unit. I see the 71-72 cutout bumpers around once in awhile I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I had both of my bumbers rechromed, I was very satisfied. The rear bumper had a dent in it and it was removed, could not even tell that a dent was there. If I could not have them rechromed I was going to use either Fusick or Tamraz to purchase repro bumbers.I like both of their products and have used both of them with very good results.

Thanks

I figure I could throw some repops on for now and wait till I found a nice pair of GM bumpers and eventually switch them both.
I could see alot of divit marks from rust on the inside so they must have been too deep.

I just wonder I had a body shop a few yers back and we sent our bumpers out to be straightened and rechromed , the thing I am curious is how do the shops know what shape the bumper is to be reformed to when involved in a collision. There surely is no pattern for different cars.

I thought a bumper could be re-chromed as long as the rust ins't all the way through. I suggest taking the bumpers to another shop. Get a second opinion.

Very few shops go to anywhere near that much work on bumpers. I would be willing to bet the owner spend 3000.00 in labor on that bumper. I paid 500.00 to have my back bumper done and it looks like crap compared to what those guys did.
