1968 442 Mod Rod

My Father bought this car from Oldsmobile after he saw it at the Chicago auto show on a turntable is what he told me.
I would like to get the car in better shape it's been sitting a few years so i thought with the knowledge of the forum we could get her back to her glory and answer some questions about The Mod Rod.

It doesn't look so great right now (not so good Repaint years ago) but I'll get pictures soon.

Thanks
randy

Cool! I was wondering if this car would ever surface. Isn't this car in a closed dealership in Georgia? There was a magazine story about your dad ten years ago or so, correct? He has some other classics too if I remember correctly.

Here it is the gold turned out too dark but it was a good paint job. I'm going to get it out of storage soon and we'll check the codes out. It has 8,000 miles on it! Any questions hit me up

It doesn't look like it has many options. No A/C And no headrests

Do you still have any documentation that this is the auto show car? That would make it really interesting. Can you post a pic of the cowl tag?

Can anyone provide a link to the article on Bushman455's father? I can't even remember if it was a hard copy magazine or if I read the story on-line.

Thanks,

I wasn't a MCR subscriber back then (I am now) and I'm guessing I just happened to buy it, probably when I was going on vacation somewhere. I'm sure I don't have it anymore. I'd love to read it again. If you have it and could email me a copy I'll PM you my email address.

Thanks,

The letters were glued on so some fell off or were helped off by someone when it sat on the showroom floor.

FWIW, the "Annual" was only available on the newsstand. I believe all articles were initially printed in the monthly and there was nothing exclusive to the Annual, so you may actually have the article if you have a good MCR library....but you'll have to sift through issues to find it.

Interesting, my Dad said they would not let him have the wheels that are in that video, He had to buy the wheels that are on it now to get it home. What kind of wheels are on it now? They are aluminum had chrome centers with an "A" on them.

I looked and I don't have the hard copy anymore. As far as I know MCR does not make their articles available electronically. I have an electronic subscription now and you can't access it without a password and the pages are obviously write-protected so you can't share them

I have pictures that I took in 1974 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina while I was student there.

This car would be awesome to have at the MCACN show (http://www.mcacn.com/) for the 50th anniversary of 1968. Any chance it has made it out of storage?

When saw this car back then, I suspected that it was a GM show car, the paint and interior changes were excellent. I dug up the old photos last week and starting doing some research which was not possible before the internet. Eventually I found this forum which answered a lot of questions. Seeing the video from the NYC Auto Show made me realize that my 1974 encounter with this car was probably not my first since I had also attended the 1968 show in New York six years earlier. I agree that it would be nice if the car makes to show circuit again.

I am glad that you like the photos. I am new to this forum and for some reason I am unable to view many the pictures that you posted. Is there any chance that you could re-post the ones of the car with the re-paint? I would like to see what it looks like today. By the way, my car back at UNC was '69 GTO which I still own today. Good luck with you 442. Hope that you get it of storage.
