OAI Air Cleaner Lettering

OAI Air Cleaner Lettering
Ok, this one has been bugging me for a long time. On the air cleaner lid of the OAI setup are the big letters OLDSMOBILE along the front edge. Were these letters ever painted (white or silver) from the factory??? I've seen a number of people over the years who had them painted, and now I'm looking thru an original March 1970 Car Life magazine...which has a feature on the 70 W30....and the letters are painted. The pic is black and white, so the letters look white. Were they just painted on the cars given to the magazines to drive......or did some come from the factory with the letters painted??
thanks,

supposedly not painted but I have heard some dealers painted them, but I am willing to guess that most were painted by owners, one of mine was painted and one wasn't - here is a picture of the one that is painted as you can see I could have done a better job blindfolded then whomever painted this one.

Ok.........but I've seen more than one magazine article from back in the day and the letters were painted. Which makes me think maybe those cars prepped for magazine review had their letters painted. They actually look good painted.....as long as it's done tastefully. Maybe Olds missed an opportunity there.

As mentioned the letters are not painted, however, I have a 70 Rally 350 magazine advertisement add that shows the letters painted, I assume this was only done for visual effect, but it might have been the original design intent, then dropped .
