When did you fall in love with the 442? What was it that made you a 442 or Olds person?
Mine was a buddy in college that had a neighborhood friend that was into Olds Cutlass and 442's. Took me for a ride in a '69 Cutlass convertible...what a sond and look! Something different from Chevelles, GTO's, Camaros, etc. The '70 became my dream car as soon as I saw one. I saw the W25 OAI hood with that amazing Supreme convertible bidy style and that was it. In 2003 I bought my project and goal is on the road in Spring.
I had a child hood friend who's father worked for GM. Every couple of years or so he would have a new..er 442 in the driveway. We kept our bicycles far and away from it for fear of corporal punishment.
Later in life when I was simply looking for daily transportation, Olds found me. I've had a few parts cars and still have my driver (in my avatar,) for 32 years.

I worked with a girl who had a black 1970 442 convertible with white interior. She loved my 66 impala and would trade cars with me for the day occasionally. Hers was pristine and the 455 with glass packs that she paid 3500.00 for just ruined me for life. Someday I would have to own one as I could not afford it then. Still can't get a real 442 but I get as close as I can without re- badging.
My older brother, who was old enough, to be my dad, drove Olds, but I always liked Chevy. When I got out of the army, in 1968, had a 1964 Chevy Nova, did not need a new car, had no money, but sure wanted one. I looked at all the GM cars. Being I had no money, The Olds dealer gave me the best buy. I think the Olds dealer gave me a $100 more trade in, so I ordered a 68 4SP, bucket seat, counsel, and Posi, yellow, with black interior. Been driving Olds since then.
In High School (Mid '80's) I was just looking for a cool car that was jacked up with big tires on the back, A guy I knew was selling a '71 442. I picked it up & drove it into the ground. I blew the engine. Swung in a 100K mile engine from a Delta that we put a big cam in & blew that too. Sold it for parts. When I got back in the classic car game I wanted a convertible, because I never had one. I focused on finding a Cutlass, which was weird since I didn't have much luck (self afflicted) with the HS 442. Found a nice 70 rag top and fixed it up hot rod style. Had that for a while and decided i wanted something different. Sold that for a 10th anniversary TA (Olds powered). Liked it but never loved it. Sold that for the 442 I have now. I thought I wanted something different. Ends up I wanted the exact same thing except with a roof and working AC
Grew up with my red/white 442. Folks bought a month after I was born. Many fond memories with family going places. My older sister and I remember sitting in the footwells behind the bucket seats and fighting who was going to lie under the rear swept glass on night runs.
When I turned 15, a blue one in a neighboring town was on the used Ford lot. I had saved my nickles and dimes, and was able to get the parents to allow me to buy it for my first car. So for me it was a family car as well as my 1st car. I eventually traded off my blue/white 76 442, but the red/white remained in the family until I eventually ended up with it and had it restored and did upgrades to the drive train etc..
My uncle had a 1970 Cutlass S I enjoyed riding in on the occasion. Also car shows when i was younger, cutlasses were never represented that much. Always the mustangs, chevelles, camaro..
I blame Mattel from my childhood. The Olds 442 with the wing was the strongest Hot Wheels made. I have a few Olds 442s from my collection but sold the remaining collection to pay for my Olds 442. My parents were Olds (GM) family and had Chevy Vegas, Olds 442 and Omega.
I was in High School when the December 1966 Car and Driver came out (I had a subscription to it) with a great article on the 67 Olds 442. I decided that it was the car of my dreams, which came true in 1970 with a gently used one.
I met my wife in that car and later sold it to my Nephew who spun a rod bearing, got it back and sold it to my Dad for my little sister to drive to college in 1976, then my Dad sold it to my Uncle who then sold it, never to be seen again.
After I got my kids raised and thru college I started looking for another one and found my current one, a 69K original interior, one repaint, 27 option car. Needless to say, I love it.... See attached photos
My mom special ordered a 1977 442 and that was our family car growing up. I remember ridding in the backseat on trips. When I turned 16 my mom gave the car to me and I drove it through high school.
I still I’ll have the car but it hasn’t been on the road since 2003. I said I wanted to restor it but the body has so much rust I can’t justify the expense.
last year I purchased a 69. It’s a stripped down muscle car which I really liked. No AC, Power Steering or Power Brakes. I have a lot of documentation on the car as well

Guy I worked with had a buddy that was selling a convertible. Jumped in his '69 Roadrunner to check it out, car was a '65 442, four speed with a 4.11. Went over on Saturday with Dad because I did not have the $700 the guy was asking. Dad drove it, with seller in passenger seat and me in the back. Once on the main road, Dad punched it and quick shifted thru couple gears, he didn't say a word and pulled car back into driveway. Looked at seller and said we'll take it. Car had been raced and was part primer, partially original paint. Had Edelbrock dual quad intake and a few q-jets in trunk. Mom was less than impressed with Dad's decision when we pulled in with car and glass pack exhaust. Lot of cars have come and gone but still have my first car.
