442 w 30 stripe question
#7
In the above picture it looks like that jig is being used for applying pin striping. Notice the car does not have a OAI hood so it can't be a W-30. (FYI - The presence of a OAI hood does not guarantee a W-30)
Perhaps the same or similar jig was used for the W-30 stripes?

Yeah, it looks like they're doing the thin stripes on the side like is on my non W30 442! Yes, it looks like some kind od guide is indexed to the wheel opening and that maybe extends in front and behind the wheel opening. It also looks like there might be some type of cradle that follows that guide, and it also appears to be some mechanical striping device like what was called a Beugler stripe tool (or something like that)! I suspect the process for a wide W-30 stripe would be a bit different.

My car was an example of that.
Pretty sure W stripes were sprayed not rolled on.

1970 442 W-30 stripes were definitely hand painted. Our W-30 still has it's original paint on it and you can tell by how (not) unformed the stripping is around the wheel openings and even the very end of the deck lid/corner of the rear quarter panel.

As I understand it, the pointed ends on the quarter panels which are an extension of the trunk lid stripe were hand brushed freehand. My 70 W30 certainly showed brush marks in that area on it's original paint.
