How do you install the snap on SSII caps?

I have a pair of purple SSIIs 15x7s that I turned into trailer wheels. Took the caps off for mounting the tires, and they don't seem to want to snap on. Do they require the wheel to be off and to pull the tabs in or is there a way to pop them on with the wheel on the vehicle?

If they are the snap on cap type (sounds like they are) you just make sure the tabs are not sticking outside of the hole in the wheel & then put the cap up to the wheel & take your fist or a rubber mallet & gently-ish smack the cap into place. It does not matter if the wheel is on or off the axle. You might have to pry the tabs in a little but if they came off the wheel, they should be in the right position for re-installation.

Success was had. I think these trailer axle dust caps fit right inside the notches and the clips were hitting it, plus I was being timid. Straightened the clips a bit and used the LFH on it. On now. I will take a picture of this thing, it is ghet-to. Thanks for advice.

I'm sorry, but when I read this, I had to laugh. It's a "what color is the White House"-type question.

If they're "snap on" caps, don't they just...snap on?

In addition to that, the snap on caps are for SSIII wheels. SSII caps are bolt-on. Minor details that don't really matter to the issue at hand, though.

Well, that's what I thought, too. I think my hub dust covers are too big or something, because the clips were hitting them. Once I bent them out a bit, they went on.

This is not true, SSII and SSIII center caps are the same, and they were both a Bolt-On type until 1975, after that they were Snap-On.

Look again. I said snap on caps are for SSIII wheels, not that SSIII wheels used snap on caps exclusively. There are no snap on caps for SSII wheels, so therefore snap on caps are for SSIII wheels.
