Looking for Starter Solenoid or Starter
Hi ya'll! I'm trying to locate a starter and/or solenoid for a 1948 Olds 78 L8. Is there a suitable replacement for the original starter for a 257 cube L8?
I have some 46-48 Olds spare parts if you need them; Carburator, Fuel/vacuum pumps (2), Hydramatic Tranny. Call for more info or write

Try this currently on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/42-46-47-48-...c7737f&vxp=mtr
Might be correct for your car, I'm no expert on those.

I do have door sills. My 47' is complete and free of major rust, but I am not sure if I want to fully part it out yet. I have no interest in running the stock engine so I don't mind getting rid of that stuff. If I decide to start stealing parts off of it I will let you know.
I will get that starter out in the next couple days (I am right in the middle of striping the paint off my 46' Olds) and get you some pics and test it. I don't know what a fair price would be for the starter.

Hi Bob. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you about that starter. I took it off my 78series. I hooked up the starter using a 6 Volt battery and it works. The bendix works, I took a picture showing it engaged. This is a pedal operated starter (pedal engages the bendix, the solenoid is on the firewall), is that what you need? As you can see in one the pictures, one of the bolt ears is broken - but it still bolts up without any problems. Let me know if you are still interested and what you think it is worth to you.
