1956 4bl carb help
I finally got the carb back on the 324 and saw a spring that was leftover. I can see in a picture I had that it must hook vertically on the drivers side but I cannot see where? Can anyone help with this cause I would like to get her running this weekend.

The only vertical spring that I am aware goes on the drivers side on the inside of the throttle linkage and pivots backwards with movementof the throttle .Spring is about 2"s long and seems to open the 4 barrels. Larry

The spring you are referring to is called the Auxiliary Bellcrank Downshift Lever Return Spring. Its part number is 561995 (group 3.586). Its purpose is to return the downshift linkage from a forced downshift configuration after the accelerator is released from a fully depressed condition. The top of it fastens in the hole indicated in your photo. The bottom of it attaches to the groove in the lower inner pin on the bellcrank. This arrangement also retains the throttle control rod (3.430; 564733) on the same pin. No fastener (3.425; 564708) is used on this pin in contrast to the other pins on the bellcrank.
