At last she's up and running again, even with an open exhaust she sounds great, still not had her out on the road yet as she's not registered yet...but at least the engine looks a darn sight better and is running sweet...just need the exhaust fitted now.

I am helping bro in law restore same car. Also sat awhile but slug not as bad. We also have the crankcase exhaust vent filter clogged. How did you clean it, or did you have to replace it?

Tropicalbill you may have to cut the thing open and clean it up and replace the filter in it with some kind of stainless steel mesh. Some of those cars had a straight tube on them without the filter. Before I cut it open I would soak it overnight in kerosene and blow it out. See what comes out and then you might do this several times.

Sometimes the crud in that road draft filter can become encrusted. If a mild solvent doesn't take it, try something a bit more powerful before doing the surgery. I once used lacquer thinner. Avoid inhaling the fumes.

I soaked mine in a solvent parts cleaner for several days. Blew it out with compressed air. Do this a couple of times and you should be good to go. Glass bead blast the exterior, paint and presto!


Be careful to tape up the open holes before you use the glass bead blaster or you'll get that stuff in the mesh. Not really a problem, just messy.
