Which rebuild kit for turbo 400?
What brand have you guys used? I'm thinking of rebuilding one for my wagon. A local jobber will have kits but want to know if a brand is better than the others. Thanks.

I went with the b&m kit with the shiftkit for my th350. The kit does not include bushings and a few other parts. I buy from transtar as they have a warehouse local but they sell almost anything you could want for your rebuild and its competitively priced.

High quality = Trans Go. Stock build or do you want neck snapping shifts? Neck snapping = dual feeding the direct drum circuit which is one of the specialties of the trans go "wild" kits. There are a few different levels of the kits. Mild to wild. At minimum I would suggest a mild shift kit for frictions n steels longevity.
As copper noted TransStar is the place to go.

I suggested the th400 kit from b&m becasue it has the most for the money. you get new bushings and whatever else is left out for a few more bucks. The b&m kit is not really that bad. My current th350 has been taking a beating and still very very good and no slippage. I will agree the trans go shift kits are superior to anything else. I have a back up trans that i went with transgo for the shift kit.

Matt also consider the clear synthetic trans fluid TCI and others offer. And the HD truck front pump and rear yoke seals. Interesting I did not know B&M kit came with all the bushings, good bit of info copper. B&M is a quality kit as well. I always have to purchase the bushings separately. I do prefer the separator plate in the TransGo kits compared to others though. Combined with a few other tricks and Alto Reds Man talk about bone jarring shifts. Tire shredding shifts! Probably not what rktolds wants in his wagon???

I may have worded that wrong. The b&m kit has no bushings. But it does have the shift kit. I got a local guy here who builds hd th400's for derby builds and says the paper clutches from raybestos are good up to 400 hp. My th350 is stock pretty much with the exception of the extra clutches and **** kit. I didn't update the sprag and I do a 123 burn out which is a no no but I wanna see what breaks lol. I know th350 to 400 is apples to oranges but I put my th350 through a lot of abuse and it still going strong. The th400 in stock form can handle power with less mods.
