I have a '71 Cutlass w/ an auto with shift on the floor concole. When I shift into park it does not fukky engage the linkage to steering column. What I manually must do at that point is turn the steering column so it will start. I think they must have designed the column shift first for powerglide type units and subsequently added the floor shift unit later. Is there some linkage bushing that I can replace?

This is a common problem on the 69-72 cars. This feature was not even used on Jetaway (powerglide) cars. There is a bolt under the car where the column linkage attaches to the trans linkage. loosen this bolt and slip column housing all the way to the left (counter clockwise) with the shifter in park, then tighten the bolt. This should fix the problem.

My 72 Supreme does this, and I am just too lazy to fix it...lol.

Hope this helps.
