200R4 Torque Converter

I bought a used 200R4 with converter for a swap in my '71 Cutlass Supreme Convertible.

Is there a way to tell what the stall is on the converter ? Also, would it be damaged by sitting outside ?

Depends if it is stock and how it was stored. Factory converters had a letter and number all the way around the edge. The D5 is the high stall, I had a couple of regular D9 converters which flash stalled at 1900 rpm behind a mild 350 and 403.

Moisture and rust are the biggest issues.

If the tranny was sealed really well - converter installed, tail shaft sealed somehow, cooling lines, dipstick and TV connection sealed - then it could be OK.
Rust on the converter snout is never good, but it's OK if it's mild surface rust and it's in front of the seal when the converter is attached to the flexplate. IOW, when the tranny is on the ground and the converter is pushed all the way in, some of the snout may still be exposed and rust. As long as the portion that's rides the seal when it's pulled forward to the flexplate is in great condition then you're OK.

If it wasn't sealed, then it needs to come apart.

For comparison, I left a TH350 just sitting in a corner of the garage for 15 years or so. A dipstick was installed, but that's all. It ran great when I pulled it, though! It probably has 2 lbs of spiders in it. I'll give it away as a good core when the time comes.
