Question troubles w/my 1964 hydramatic

Hi guys, I need some tips to find out what's wrong w/tranni, this tranni Up-shifts really good from 1-2 to 3rd and it feels really strong but when I got to a stop or start to slowdown it takes too long to down shift by it self the car starts to pull till engine struggles then it does go from 3rd to 2nd, I'd replace oil and cheked the filter looks good, any suggestions? is there any vacum hose that Im not aware? Thanx.

If after what Coldwar suggested does not improve the downshift then 1) you may have sticky governor weights, 2) sticky downshift valves in valve body. It sounds like it might be a simple fix without yanking the box, (other than governor weights, which I can't recollect if they are easy to get to while in car).

Make sure the engine is tuned to factory specs. Particularly the warm idle speed. Should be 500-550 RPM.
