Torque Converter Recommendation TH 400 and 455
Looking for Torque Converter (Brand, Stall, Approx Cost, Model), recommendations for my 70 Cultass Convertible. Here are the specs:
455---HP/Tq approx 400-450
TH 400 with shift kit
4 core radiator and will put in trans cooler if necessary
3:31 posi gears Chevy 12 bolt
5500 RPM max
Street car. Stop light to stop light kind of car. Top down highway cruiser as well. Will never see the track.
Thanks.

With what you've got so far, I can't see any reason that a stock TH400 converter won't do. Until you've sorted out what the final outcome of the engine/diff ratio/tire size is finished, don't p-ss your money on a high stall and then find out that it's all wrong.
There are a number of high stall converter builders that can/will give you the right converter for YOUR APPLICATION.
You can contact Paul at T.C.S. in Langley, B.C. Smart guy, used to own a performance engine shop and at one time was crew chief on a Pro-Mod car. T.C.S. converters are warrantied and made in Canada so you pay in Canadian funds. You can check out their website www.tcsproducts.com and see what they can offer you.

But even a 2200 2500 stall helps. It's not just about the power but driveability. I once ran a w30 cam with a 2000 stall and it did not want to idle in drive. To took alot of tuning just to get it to do that. Went to a 2800 stall and it changed. I'm not saying put a 3000 stall in it but a 2400 stall would be perfect. My 3000 stall does not slip very much around the street. For the best bang for the buck you could get your factory converter cleaned and re stalled. We have a local shop that does that. Stock units usually can go upto 2400.
