Tranny swap, driveshaft

Hi all. I just purchased a 71 Cutlass with a 350 rocket and TH350. I also purchased a 455 with TH400 which i pick up later this week. Do i need to change the driveshaft as well? I have no experience with these cars. Thanks

My 68 442 had a 350/350 in it when I bought it. When I installed the 455 and the TH400, the existing driveshaft was too long and the front yoke was too small for the TH400. I had to locate the correct driveshaft. You could possibly have your current shaft redone in the correct length and change the front yoke to the appropriate size.

Anyway, that was my experience... maybe someone else knows different.

Yes, you need a yoke for t400 and either modify/replace your drive shaft. In addition you'll need to move the transmission xmember to the rear about 6 inches. The last item that needs attn is to replace the front and intermediate ebrake cables. I circumvented this by using a shorter passenger side hook and readjusted the existing cables.
