70 Cutlass - TH350 Pan gasket R&R Do you need to remove Cross member?

Do you need to loosen/shift the cross member over to remove the pan. I think I can get the two bolts out along the front, just want to be sure once I remove all bolts, that the pan can drop/clear the filter with the cross member in place...
thanks

The pan on my 70 and 71 would come off without loosening the cross member, but it was a bit tight. I typically first let the front of the pan drop (the rear lip gets trapped by the crossmember when it tips) and dump fluid, then work the rear of the pan out.
