Octane ratings

It appears that there are 3 main methods of depicting the octane rating of modern vehicles.

Motor rating (MON)-a more severe test representing engines under high load, full throttle conditions

Research method ( RON )- represents vehicles under lighter load ie typical street driven vehicles

Anti Knock Index (AKI) (also known as pump posted (PP) -this is an average of MON and RON

Depending where one lives this could cause serious issues

FOR EXAMPLE---premium gas

Australia and New Zealand use RON @96.3
?????? use MON @85.5
Nth America use AKI @91

What they use in Europe and elsewhere I am unsure but it`s certainly potentially confusing. EXAMPLE The owners manual or operator`s guide produced in English is generally produced for the largest using ,English speaking group of users --Nth America . This will typically give an AKI rating to fill your car with .The numbers (above ) are a whole lot different when applied in nz and aus.

I will be doing a bit of local research with the hot rodder fraternity to see what they are using around this neck o` the woods.
