Need Help
Bought this 1950 Chevy truck back this Spring. (pictures included) It's been modified over it's life many times. When I bought it, it did run, but not well and has many hillbilly installs. First he grafted a mid 70s GM frame, cannot identify what it's from. It has a 1970 Oldsmobile 350 with a matching 400 TH trans. The motor was sitting cockeyed in the engine bay. The brake pedal setup was really bad. So decided to tear it down and start over. He had fabbed home made motor mounts and welded them to the sub frame. He also added a transmission cross member but did not take out the original one from the 6 cylinder (you can see it in the pics). I'm not sure where I should start trying to remount the engine. Do I need to identify the frame and what it belonged to so I can figure out what kind of frame motor mounts will fit with the existing frame and at the same time it has to fit to the 350 Oldsmobile motor mounts. Should I get rid of the old truck transmission cross member, all it does is tie the frame rails together. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would get rid of the old transmission cross member! Then mock the motor and transmission at proper height so that the drive line and rear pinon is at right angle. Then start building motor mounts and transmission cross member. Mocking up with a cherry picker and a floor jack to hold combo in place.JMO Good luck with your project.

I saw your post on the Hotrodders forum also. The upper control arms look like second-gen F-body. The frame pads for the engine are obviously home-made by the P.O. The slots tell me that the prior installation used the stud-mount rubber motor mounts from a 1965-70 Olds full size cars. These would be Anchor P/N 2262/2263 (they are RH/LH).
If that is really an F-body subframe, the best thing to do if you plan to keep the Olds motor is to cut off the home made frame brackets and use the frame and motor mounts from a 77-79 Trans Am with the Olds 403 motor.
The TA used metal brackets on the block and the Chevy-style clamshell brackets on the frame.

350 motor frame mount holes
Thanks Joe, I removed the home made frame mounts, but I'm confused on which frame mount will work with the subframe and these series of holes. Do all the second gen subframes have the same hole patterns? The holes are different on each side ? Is there a diagram out there that spells out what motors and motor mounts go with what holes. The way I'm understanding it, Oldsmobile used three types of motor mounts. I'm still not sure what setup I should use. I will attach pictures of the motor mount holes. Thanks! Dazed and confused...

Is the engine height and angle going to work with the stock type frame brackets with relation to the transmission mount and drive shaft install? Will the oil pan clear the front cross member with those brackets?
