Eddies Performance Motors? Is 7200 to much?
Hey fellas,
So, I talked to this guy today from Eddies Valve Grinding Shop based in New Jersey, and they told me that they have some custom built olds 350 motors that put out about 400 horsepower, although I already know I wont get that due to vehicle weight upon other factors. They have a payment plan that will allow you to pay for it from 1-12 months. The cost of the motor with everything already done to it will cost me 7200 dollars, is this to much? Has anyone ever heard of Eddies Valve Grinding Shop? They claim that it was founded by Eddie Banach Sr. who was a great drag racer or at least it says he was? what do you guys think? They said the engine will bolt on to my 350 tranny, so what do you think? the website is, www.eddiesvalvegrinding.com, keep in mind that I would be putting this in a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham. |

Never heard of them.
I would go ELSEWHERE. You could get that much power from a 350 for 1/2 that. 400 from a 403 would cost half again. Spend your money.....WISELY. JMO Last edited by Warhead : 05-27-2008 at 12:03 PM. |

I agree with Warhead. That's a lot of money for a 350!

Take a look at this, if it said Chevy once, it said Chevy twice!
BTW, I also think thats too expensive....... "The recipe for building a potent V8 oldsmobile performance engine for your car is a procedure that has been crafted through years of experience at Eddies Performance. Most of us utilize the very engine that is in our car looking to get a rebuilt engine, but if your small block olds is a paltry 307 it will be challenged to perform as a larger 400 or 455 ci engine. Here is an example of some common normally aspirated chevy engines we build with some impressive horsepower at Eddies: a Oldsmobile 350 Engine Rocket 350 - Up To 450 hpa Oldsmobile 400 Engine - Up To 500 hpa Oldsmobile 400 Engine 4-4-2 Rocket - Up To 550 hpa Oldsmobile 425 Engine Super Rocket - Up To 605 hp a Oldsmobile 455 Engine - Up To 625 hpThere tends to be some truth in the phrase "no replacement for displacement" when it comes to small or big block chevy motors. Adding displacement is the easiest and most cost effective way to increase horsepower throughout the entire RPM band. But with today's technologies and the machining modifications that we utilize at Eddies we can get impressive horsepower with stump pulling torque utilizing an engine as small as a 350."

Is this a joke? I couldnt care who it was founded by, THIS IS A RIPOFF. This is only a 350 Olds!!! God forbid you had something more exotic like a 425 or 455 Olds!

Take a look at this site, it is not a "turnkey" engine, but it seems to have good parts in it.

It still is. This formula works for me: money + time + work = finished product. Where work is the effort put forth by YOU this would probably remain constant with perhaps a small increase over time (experience); so, if you spend less money you have to spend more time or if you spend less time you have to spend more money, both to get the same results in a finished product (your car). Me, I have been on my project now for over two years, get the idea?

wow i feel like i just got blasted through a brick wall. ok. ok. Thanks for knocking me back to my senses guys. I guess I'm getting a little fusturated with my current (350) motor. I went to change the radiator out from a cooling issue, and that was resolved, only to find out that I also have oil leaks on the intake manifold gasket, and the valve covers, and the carb I have the Rochester Qaudrajet, is in the crapper, Im thinking of replacing it with a edelbrock. You guys know anyway of increasing compression?

BIG-2.072 valve 350, Roller rockers Good springs Speed pro Flat-tops Arp bolts Balanced, etc. $4999. Remember, Edelbrock advertised the Performer RPM package on a 10:1 350, with #5 heads at 397 hp. Quote:

Regular stock heads. My dad used to have a 76 cutlass and that one had some balls. The 77 sucks because of low compression.

You should have 3A heads on that 350. 75cc chamber, rather bad exhaust port with a 1.500 exhaust valve. An early set of #4,5,6,7,or 7a's will gain some compression, and flow much better.
You would HAVE to open the head bolt holes to 17/32nd's (77 and later engines use a larger 1/2 inch head bolt). Do this while you have the valve job done. Your dad's 76 had #8 heads with an even larger chamber. I would look at more than just the heads for your performance increase. Jim in Phx. Last edited by Warhead : 05-28-2008 at 12:34 PM. |
