Cutlass wont go over 25 miles per hour

I recently purchased a 1986 Cutlass 307 v8 and the person I bought it from said the car has been sitting because it would not go over 25mph so they parked it. If anyone has an ideal of what the problem is, I would appriciate it.

start with the carb. then if that's not it, inspect the transmission. My car wouldn't go over 45mph one day, and it turned out that the secondarys were hanging up on my new gasket.

If somebody tried to adjust the carb to tranny linkage (aka TCV) and didn't click it all the way down, that would happen

Should be petty easy to figure out. Will it not shift out of low? Is it slipping or is it a lack of power problem?

The transmission might not have enough fluid.
