Stripped quadrajet carb fuel gas inlet 1971 Cutlass

All,
I thought I was just doing a basic wrenching job. Had to be to work at 9. It was 8:00. I figured I'd pull the fuel filter and replace real quick. Well surprise and unknown to me, the guy who had the car before me had stripped the carb fuel filter inlet threads and glued/JB Welded or something'd the fuel filter into the carb.

So I bought one of those self tapping fuel filter fittings. Last Friday I rode down to Winchester to buy one. 3 hours and $40 worth of gas later I found out it was the wrong size. I bought the 1" diameter one, but I needed the 7/8"

So then I went ahead and ordered this one from quadrajetparts.com. I ordered it on Saturday night or maybe Sunday and got it yesterday. Great work!Tomorrow or Saturday I'll run out and throw it on.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck...
Happens to me at times, too.
I hope this one will do the trick!

I had the same problem with the carb on my 71. I had a carb place helicoil in new threads and it allows me to still use the carb fuel filter. (Cost @ $80) The self tapping ones do work fine, but I would probably use an inline filter so that you did not have to take it apart again.

X2...I like the inline filter idea.

if this is a rare carburetor, i would have a heli coil put in it. if for some reason this one leaks i don't think you can fix it a second time.

Inline filters are okay as long as they are on the suction side of the fuel pump. I do not like rubber hose on the pressure side (despite the pressure being rather low).
