Epoxy or oil filled, round ignition coil?

I am planning running the Mallory 6AL box with my Mallory Magnetic Breakerless distributor. I have the proper Mallory and an Accel 1500 ohm primary resistance coil. I have to change the coil with a lower primary resistance, is oil filled or epoxy the way to go? Where was the stock mounting point? I am thinking of mounting it on the fire wall. I want to stay round, Pertronix Ignitor 2, Accel or MSD, I am considering.

The stock mounting place for the coil is just to the passenger side of the distributor. There is a threaded hole on the intake for the bolt to hold the clamp.

Do you mean 1.5 ohm primary resistance? 1500 is a lot...

Anyway, I have always used standard oil filled coils without problems (with stock and Ignitor I ignition systems). Then I bought an Accel coil that leaked oil new from the box so I decided to try an epoxy coil. Been using it for three years without a hickup now (Ignitor I lobe sensor system).

I accidentally ordered the wrong coil (Flame-Thrower II instead of one) so I added a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor. Works like a charm.

Yah, sorry 1.5 ohm. I am considering the ignitor 2 coil. I will be running the ballast resistor to the magnetic breakerless, the 6AL box needs a lower resistance coil.

Just signing in so I can learn from this thread and your project. I am switching my ignition system out for a Mallery Unilite with a MSD coil. I plan on running it for a while before deciding whether or not to switch to a Mallory Ready to Run distributor.

Does the Unilite require the same coil resistance? That Accel Super Stock coil, if it is the points replacement works for the Magnetic Breakerless. I just had misfires at high rpm, otherwise worked fine.

Epoxy coils will not dissipate heat as well as oil filled coils. This could lead to overheating and premature failure

Thanks, I kind of wondered if the epoxy would get hotter.
