Angry Links in ads

As an example, reference 7 July post by 68 cutty for 68 cutlass parts. Click on the link tail light housing. An EBay ad pops up for 68 Dodge Coronet tail light housing. WTF ? Is Classic Olds being hacked by EBay, NSA, or the Chinese?

These links are automatically placed in all posts by Internet Brands, the owner of this and many other internet fora.

If you don't like them, use AdBlockPlus, and you'll never see them again.

Amen to Firefox with ABP.
On the bright side you got ads for car parts, rather than tampons like some other members here have got in the past...

Eric,
Interesting that CO does not own the forum. I often wondered who the genius was who wrote all of that nice interactive software. I naively assumed that it was some geek member of the CO staff. Now I know.

Actually the site itself was created years before InternetBrands bought it, using VBulletin (VBB) software. Some forum geeks customized the look and feel, which we're always evolving. InternetBrands purchased the site from the original owner years ago, and pretty much just holds it, leaving it to be run by the volunteer moderating staff.

I'll pass your complaint about the pop-up link ads to the IB folks, maybe they'll turn them off for us. One can hope, anyway.

Update:

Just found out those link-popup ads should ONLY display for not-logged in, or unregistered users. Were you logged in when you got them?

Ok, there's clearly a problem. I'll get the IB tech team on it.

On the iPad, the bottom right corner of a page has the visual appearance of a piece of paper with the corner bent leaving a triangle. If your finger happens to touch that triangle when you are scrolling , it "tears" away what you were reading and brings up an advertisement.

I've previously posted pics that show advertising over the top of people's signature pics.

I don't see IB doing anything about it. That's how they make their money.

I hate that this site is owned by big brother.

Sorry but you were misinformed.

When I spoke with the site owners last week, they told me pop-up ads should ONLY be appearing for not-logged in or unregistered people, and if they were, it was a bug in their configuration. There was no ambiguity, and I was not "misinformed." I told them I would check with the users and let them know if it was a problem, which (see above) I have. I then wrote them and asked it be looked into and fixed.

Cast stones all you like, but I feel that's a better response than "too bad get over it" which is what some large forum consolidators have said about pop up ads. IB is not one of them.

Please stand by for a fix. I will re-open this thread for feedback once they tell me they think they have it taken care of.
