Valve spring choices

comp cams recommends 995-16 springs for my cam but they say machine work needs to be done. Is there anything I can put on without machine work that are a suitable replacement for them. I think I have valve float so I want to get different springs on there but don't want to pull my heads.

Should have done a search first, which I normally do, I found a thread where the same question was asked about these springs. This thread can be deleted

Flat taopet or roller cam? A little more info would be nice.
You'll probably need to cut the guides, the inner diameter is fairly small. That may be what they mean.
They list them as a roller spring. They're airtime light on the seat for that, and not quite enough over the nose. Not something I would use but need more info.

For me, the first step is to determine what spring will give the desired seat and open pressures, for the possible installed heights with available retainers, locks, and spring cups or hardened shims (such as Comp offers). The Comp recommendation is fine if you can achieve the installed height needed to use that spring. I routinely use Comp, Isky, Crower, etc. catalogs to search for the best spring combination for a given cam. I generally use the Isky 507STA retainer which gives more installed height than the 507ST, and is short underneath to give more clearance to the guide. I like the Howards seals that are not real thick on top, again for retainer to guide clearance. It is best to minimize cutting off the height of the guides.
