Are there any quality sources for new windshields? Anything to avoid about DIY?

I think if you look in telephone book you should find a glass installer in your area ,they should be able to get a windshield for you . I had one put in my 64 skylark couple years ago . I would not try to install them myself usually the glass place has a set price for glass and installation and if they break it they can replace it ,and most installers will come to your place to do it. you could take the old one out and get the channell primed and painted .

I dont know about the f-85 but your 67 should be interchangable with impala's and buick's i think. When i was looking for a windshield for my dynamic I cros referenced what GM cars worked and it was actually cheaper for me to get a windshield from a 62 impala then a 62 olds. I dont know about the moulding around the windshield but it can get expensive unless you search around on the net for one of those to, and yeah i heard DIY is not recommended cause it really sucks when you shatter your minty windshield.

I used to see glass on evilbay for around 200$ looking now the only Olds glass was for the 50's cars and the prices started around 500$ before shipping. That making the local installers price of 550$ look a lot better.

If you aren't a complete klutz you can do it yourself. The 3M kit is available with various thickness beads, and costs around $15. You can use the wire with two handles method of removing the old glass, clean the channel and paint to rust proof it, install the bead as 3M directs, put in the hard rubber blocks to support the glass, and lay it in. Press around the edge with the heel of your hand to make sure it adheres to the bead all around.

If you have a "Five Star" glass in your area, try them. They came to my house and did the install. It has been a while but it was very reasonable.
Or just call around and see who can do it. The glass is still available.

For a 1967 442 I bought both front and rear glass from a local shop and the purchase price plus installation was under $500. They ordered the front glass and cut a new piece of flat glass for the rear window, both tinted. I was thinking they were about the same price so if your getting a quote of $550 for just the front you may want to look around a little more. I've used old glass in projects, but having new without any wiper haze or tiny rock chips is really nice!

I have successfully set two in the past. One with the buytl tape and the other with the caulk from Advance Auto Parts. I'm not afraid of doing it. I just can't find a source!
I reset the original in the '65 after cleaning up the channel but it has delaminated and deteriorated way too much.
The '67 Cuda glass was 140 + 100 shipping. The other class was 160 and I picked it up.

What's your location? Some of us have used glass but shipping would be difficult. John

Should be lots of new glass out there for the 65...chevelle is the same...got a new windshield last year for under 200.00..installed myself (pain in the neck) try your local PPG glass supplier...depends where you live I guess
