Driveshaft

Need a "1 piece" drive shaft/yoke from a 1970 Cutlass 350/TH350.
I think 69-70 would be the same.
The critical Number Is 56" Center to Center of U joints.

looks like retro

may have you covered

here is mine for consideration after the others

just went out and snapped a few and retro had posted ...

should clean up nice ... hit one spot with wire brush and cleaned up easily

yoke is really nice no rust or groove at the seal ...

original u joints,,,, feel fine ... bolt in and drive or replace

I have several I've pulled over the years. Each is marked with the engine / Transmission combination of the car they were pulled from.

Ok, explain two piece. The shaft doesn't slide in and out. It's solid.

Seriously, I am just trying to figure this stuff out.

Thanks

I thought and i could be wrong that your pics (specifcally #2) show 2 concentric shafts 1 inside another held together w vulcanized rubber.

the 1 piece shaft just has a gradual change in diameter, ill try to snap a pic of mine tomorrow to illustarte as i cant really make it out on any of the exisiting pics.

if you look at 72 455s 2nd pic right around the 12.5" mark it show a diameter change in the shaft thats what i mean

Your drive shaft is a two piece with the rubber to hold the parts together.

Wasn't that to help with vibration dampening?

You can assume what you want but it isn't a one piece. I have never had a vibration problem with a one piece that has been balanced. I am a drag racer can't have a bad drive shaft.

What I meant was, wasn't the rubber in between there two pieces of the driveshaft to help with Driveline vibrations? I thought I had heard that somewhere along the line. Not arguing with you.

I may be wrong on the rubber. I just know drag racers don't use that type of drive shaft because it is a two piece. Not arguing with you also.

Olds442redberet yours is a two piece..it was used in low horse apps and the rubber is a dampener for rotational vibration..

its injected during the building of the drive shaft..and in hi horse apps, it just spins inside the tube when it hooks..very common in drive shaft buicks..

prob is lower horse can spin it too..and who knows when or if its ever spun...

i don't know about your 70s vintage cutlass/442 but a 65 442 had the solid shaft and a 65 cutlass had the 2 piece with rubber shaft

This IS a 2-piece shaft == slip end is set in rubber. Was made for automatic trans car.

should have read further before i posted. Oyhers before me said same thing. Whats realy hard to find for a dragracer is a one-piece stock driveshaft for a TH400 application!! I raced with a 2-piecer and held my breath for 2 years until i found a 1-piece shaft to fit my 67 W30 TH400

i can tell you first hand the 2 piece driveshafts don't like slicks and the torque of a 455,4 spd
