Checking in to see what may be hiding in someones backyard, garage, attic etc. Restoration of my 59 Olds 98 convertiblie is about 35% complete and I'm still looking for some pieces and a little technical assistance.
1) original steel rims (I believe 98's were wider, 14x5.5) I have 1 only 2) any leads or knowledge of floor pan reproductions? Heard 59 chev may be modified to work? 3) Are the 98 conv trunk lids interchangable with coupes or possibly 88"s? Mine is a little rusty and I'd love to find a better one etc. 4) Need a Generator for the 394. (No AC) 5) Rear wheel well trim, LH & RH. (mine are crushed pretty bad) 6) Same for the rocker moldings 7) Did the 59 Olds 98 have a vacuum trunk option like the Cadillacs 8) Is there a code publication for the 59 Olds options, plant ID etc? |

59 Olds questions
I don't know if I can answer all of your questions but this should help
Power Trunk Lock? Yes, The 1959 Olds accessory parts list shows a Deck lid power lock release Gr 12.243 Part # 989274 is what you are looking for. I do not know if it is exactly the same as Cadillac but it was Vacuum opperated. I have several NOS actuating cylinders for the 1960 model but I think they are different. You should be able to tell what plant your Olds was assembled at by looking at the body identification plate mounted on the cowl beneath the LH windshield wiper transmission. On that plate look for the body number located on the upper RH side. All body numbers are prefixed by letters indicating the plant which the body was assembled which are: L-Lansing,BL- Linden,BA-Doraville,BC-Southgate,BF-Framingham,BW-Wilmington,BK-Kansas City,BT- Arlington. This does not apply to SW bodies 57 thru 61 in 88 & S88 Series which were built in Ionia Michigan. As far as the parts you are looking for I may be able to help you. We have over 100,00 pieces of NOS on the shelf, mostly Olds and a lot more than that waiting to go into our database. When I have time I will grab a parts book and try and figure out what you need or if you know the part numbers that you are looking for feel free to E-mail me or call anytime in the afternoon 406-777-3221. Hope this helps you. You have a real nice car !, Can you post a picture of it for us? Regards oldsobsolete |

Surprisingly the clips for the panels are easy to find. #7 '59s did have the vacuum trunk release - Some advertisements showed the handle in the glove box #8 '59 Options can be found in the options pamphlet. Also get a '59 manual |

Thanks for the insight. I've since found the rocker moldings and rims. If you get a chance to measure your 98 coupe trunk length and width, that would be helpful. Anyone with an 88 2dr trunk lid to measure would be nice also. Yes, rear wheel moldings are proving hard to find.
