Seaching for Olds 350 Heads replace #8s, maybe?
Afternoon all - just bought a junkyard olds 350 motor, casting 395558-2. It runs, but am wanting to do a tear down over the winter.
Has #8 heads - I'm a complete novice when it comes to engines, but have read these are some of the most least desirable heads (smogger heads).
Looking for another set of heads, 4, 5, or 6. Unless something can be done ot the #8 heads when i get the rebuilt done?
Application is small-town dirt track racing, with an olds cutlass.
Thank you

You want 4, 5, 6, 7, or 7A heads (not to be confused with 7A heads from the 1980s 307). Any of those will work with your motor and they are roughly equivalent.
============================
Avoid the 7A heads
1972 issue 7a would be ok
I have a set of used #6 heads

Seaching for Olds 350 Heads
I have almost every Olds cylinder head, except the "exotics" (and #10, right Gerald). I can sell them as cores or all done for your combination. As stated above, your location would help; however, I recently shipped a set, ready to install, to Minnesota. Email me direct: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

I would ask shipping be included to Lakeside, AZ. What is the difference between selling them as cores or all done? If I'm getting my 350 rebuilt over the winter by a machinist, would it be better to have them do all the work to the heads, or does it matter? Thank you everyone again for your help.

I don't know your machinist or his qualifications. When I build an engine, I have my "machine shop" bore, hone, line hone, balance, deck the block, re-condition the rods, whatever the BLOCK needs. All of my cylinder head work is done by a shop that ONLY does cylinder heads. If you know and trust the shop that you're using, then just buy cores. The shipping is the same either way. When you decide, email me and I'll get you some pricing: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob
