425 block
#9
On the back is a 5, then below that a 333
The vin stamp has been rusted and bubbly....I tried filing the rust away to see if I could make out any faint numbers, but no luck.
=======================
There were no VIN stamps in the pre-'68 era
425's were used '65 thru '67
The 5-333 date is interesting.
Some assert that the 5 is a calendar year indicator. GENERALLY this seems to hold true, with say 1968 455 blocks bearing a "1" if cast in 1967 or a "2" for 1968. Your figures and some others I have documented however discount this theory. E.g.:
1 - First 425 D block for 1965 model years cast mid to late 1964; thus:
2 - 1965
3 - 1966
4 - 1967.
Last "D" block should have been cast around the middle of 1967.
Therefore, the should be no 5th calendar year of D block production, according to the "first number corresponds to which year the item was cast" theory.
Anyhow, GLWTS, it has a lot of effort into smoothing the casting.
