I bought it with the purpose of installing it in my 1956 Olds. But looking at it I do not think it will fit. I have the template and when I put it on the dash it didn't seem to fit or be right. The base of the eye is shaped to fit the dash so the dash on the 1955 is different than a 1956. I could be wrong. If you could find someone that has one on there 1956 car and get the guide number off the bottom of the eye I could see if it matches mine.
