Very nice original spare from a '73 Hurst. The tire has no dry rot and has plenty of tread left. The tire is date coded 1093, ( April 19 1973 ). The wheel is stamped M3 4 24 ( April 24 1973 ) The paint is all factory original. $395.00 Located at Greensburg, Pa. O.C.A. member since 1980.

I can't remember the last time I saw a small-letter T/A. Fine tire for its time and well-suited to the 73 H/O, which along with the Salon were the first Oldsmobiles with suspension specifically set up with radial tires in mind.

Let's hope it finds a home in the trunk of a well-restored 73.

I wish I had a '73 H/O W-46 to mount the fantastic tire/rim combination into the trunk. Too bad B.F. Goodrich does not make the small lettering again.

If you did not notice the "radial" lettering, you could mistake it for a belted tire, with it's squared off looking sidewall/tread.

Maybe, if enough enthusiasts contact Michelin, the parent company of B.F. Goodrich, they would start again manufacturing the Radial T/A with the small lettering.

A few more pictures. Tire size is GR60-14. The tread is 6 plies rayon, the sidewall 2 plies rayon. This was one of the very best hi-performance tires back in it's day.

I don't know if your intent in selling this tire is that people actually use it on a car, but the chemistry of rubber is such that there is no way that a 40-year-old tire is safe to drive on, regardless of whether or not any dry rot is visible.

The tire doesn't actually "rot." What happens is the rubber, which is amorphous when new, slowly crystallizes, and it shrinks as that happens. Those cracks you see in the sidewall or tread are due to that shrinkage. The tire loses its flexibility and is much more prone to blowing out. I've seen it happen on tires less than half the age of this one.

As a decorative piece that you might keep around when displaying the car at a car show, fine, but keep a new tire on hand as well in case you really do get a flat.

I mentioned that the tire has no dry rot, and has plenty of tread, solely to describe the cosmetic condition. No one wants to display a bald dry rotted tire in their trunk. This tire should NEVER be used for any normal type of driving. I should have noted that in my first post. It is a nice display item for the trunk of any '73 Hurst. For a true "trailer queen", I believe it can be used on a car, but only for slow speed driving on and off the show car field.
