Likely someone swapped the Ga heads or that is a 73 455 transplanted into the car. Easy to tell, look at the engine stamping plate to see what the manufacturing year is.

Pick a part is a self service salvage yard you can pick all your own parts. Take your tools and have at er!

I understand. Just telling you that 72 455's have GA heads. J heads came in with the 73 models. Maybe it was replaced sometime in the last 40 years, who knows?

WANNA HEAR SOMETHING CRAZY,

not sure if you remember Al, but i was complaining about a "ticking" sound coming from my valvetrain of my engine a couple months ago.

Low and behold, i went to the car meet yesterday, one of the guys took 1 look at my engine and said "are you hearing a weird ticking noise at low RPM".

I was shocked, my engine wasnt even running.

Sure enough, one of my exhaust bolts was missing, creating a really small exhaust leak. and sure enough, thats where it was coming from.

I wasn't trying to get anyone on the defensive asking about the pick-a-part as they sell their complete motors for $200 in NC. I understand everyone is trying to make a buck, but a $200 dollar engine is a $200 dollar engine. If we want people to keep their Olds engines in their Olds cars, then don't drive them away by making it unaffordable. So when someone installs a $500 complete SBC into their Olds with more power then don't give him/her crap and only tell them I understand.

Just an opinion

Thanks
