Your post isn't really that clear. I'm guessing you mean:
1. I have a pair of NOS (1970??) Cutlass Supreme Grilles
2. The boxes are so ratty and coming apart they are no good to hold the grilles anymore. (sure hope you don't mean the grilles were getting poor looking so you removed them from the boxes?)
3. Does this affect the NOS value of my grilles?

Well, NOS just means New Old Stock that has never been used/mounted. It might be worth more to someone if it has the original boxes, because some people just get the thrill of a lifetime opening an NOS box for the first time - it's like a treasure hunt!

But if the box is toast after only 42 years? What can you do? Might be a good idea to just take pics of the boxes to show what they turned into if anyone asks. There are lots of NOS parts that get scratched etc from being on shelves without protective packaging. The box is really the icing on the cake (if it was still stapled shut) to show the part is genuinely NOS GM. Some people will argue that once a part is removed from the box and 'handled' it is no longer NOS. I'm not one of those guys.

IMO the value of the grilles is not diminished by the box deteriorating as long as you can show/prove they have never been mounted.

Why not post a pic here? It would be easier for others to offer up an opinion based on what we can actually see.

Yes they are 1970 Cutlass supreme grills,They are like new but boxes were not. They were not painted.
So here i guess is the part i did paint them and set them in my car but my car has been in my garage for years has not moved.
I just built a new shop so had to move my car and after 13 years i figured i better get it back on the road.So i ordered thousands in parts and where i have my own bodyshop i am going to get it done now.
I don't think i still have the boxes will check today and take some pics of the grills.

So, the grills have been installed. Regardless of whether the car has or has not moved, these now are not NOS. They are excellent quality used parts. You could still get good money for them if you explain your situation to a buyer. Anyone buying them will be able to determine quite easily if they have been mounted by checking the mounting tabs. FWIW, at one time all these grills were NOS

Well, repops of these are going for 280.00. I would suggest yours are worth a bit more than that but I don't know where the crack is from the pics. that could affect valuation. Maybe someone else could chime in, but I don't believe the CS grilles are a 'high demand' item . I know the Cutlass S is because it's not repopped. Suggest you start your ask at around 320 - 350 and see what kind of response you get. OEM always fits better than most repops. Good luck.

Guys, go back and re-read permalink 3. 1970442 said they have NOT been painted. FWIW, some NOS parts are not perfect. I don't know how the hairline crack got there - it might have been from the install? Anyway, I'm sure he knows by now that once they have been mounted they are not NOS.

Like I also said, repops are going for 280.00 IMO, OEM even if slightly used are a better fit and deal than repops. If you can get real NOS ones cheap, more power to you. I think 1970442 was fishing for answers. Please note he's a junior member and asking for help. Let's do that instead of bashing him.

Keep the boxes, eventhough they are ratty.I had an NOS cylinder head with the remains of the GM box,but it was enough to prove & show what it was,a true NOS head.
The grilles are worth $250.00 to $300.00. If they were 70 Cutlass 'S' grilles, you could about triple that number.

Retro, my apologies. I don't know what to think now. Sentence before that he says they were not painted. Then in the sentence you kindly highlighted so I could see better he says he did.

This is one of those posts where the OP needs to take a little time and think about how others will read it. I tried to help him out as a newbie because his first post of these grilles was really awkward and hard to understand.

Thanks for your patience and input.
