1970 W30 distributor - wrong part number

its for sale on ebay, maybe this should be in general discussion. clearly its the wrong number as that is a standard 442 455 distributor number but just wondering if it may have been original to the car anyway. poor guy thinks its worth $1500

Sure...it's possible he took this out of his W-30 many years ago. He doesn't say he was the original owner of that W car! Could it have come in a W-30? Possible...anything's possible, doubtful, but knowing he was not the original owner and with the car long gone, there's no way to check date codes to even pose the possibility of it. I know that painting the inside of it like that definitely will add about $1450.00 or so to the price tag. Really dumb...who wants flakes of paint to get in their points? 'Cuz that's what's going to happen as soon as those advance weights start moving.

It is "possible" that it was all that was available on the line, when the engine & car were assembled, but it's hard to say without having the actual car. That thing is dated April 7th,1970,so the car would have needed to be built after that.Regardless,it is a regular 442 distributor. The later date makes it a tougher sell because there weren't as many cars that it would be correct for, compared to an earlier one.

Its a shame that whoever "rebuilt it" decided to sandblast the housing. Almost took the date and part number off with it.
