--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Full size 12 bolt posi unit had 3.08 gears should hold up to 3.42 gear.

Totally disassembled, carrier housing cleaned, media blasted and poslished.
-Spider gears media blasted and checked for flaws and wear.
-Clutches all checked out and if bad replaced with other gm clutches that are good.
-Everything reassembled and reshimmed tighter than stock for better performance unit that factory.

I also have a lower series posi carrier for 2.41-2.93 gears could be used for 3 series gears if a spacer is used which can be supplied also. same stuff done to it all reconditioned ready to go for 199.99 . same bearing deal also.

Hello. If this posi unit had 3.08 gears on it originally it will only accept 2.73, 2.93 and 3.08. It appears from your pictures that this is a "P" style carrier used in 1965 and some 1966 and 1967 full-sizes (1966 and 1967 full-sizes can have Pontiac or Oldsmobile built rear axles). Should have '153' cast on it. Carriers for 2.41 and 2.56 have '152' cast on them. Olds full-sizes never had these gear ratios in the 'P' style rear axle (only later in 'O' style) and you would have to get the 2.41 and 2.56 along with the carrier from a full-size 1965-1970 Pontiac rear end (the guts will fit the Olds housing but the whole rear will not). Carriers for 3.23 and 3.42 (and numerically higher in a Pontiac) have '148' cast into them.

Sorry, another quick addition - Jetstar 88 in 1965 and 1966 and, I believe, but have not verified, Delmont 88 in 1967 with 330 engine use a rear end with Cutlass 8.2" internals and are completely different from other full-sizes.

Full Sized Posi

OK, it sounds like you guys know about obsure posi units! A few years ago I pulled the guts out of a rear end I was told came out of a 1968 full sized Olds. It has the number 700 cast into it and it has 12 bolts holding the ring gear on. It's a 2.56 ratio and it has the "S" springs holding the clutches in, not the round coil springs. I believe the axles had 31 splines. The bone yard wanted a pile of money for the whole rear complete, but sold me the posi unit for about half that price. I'm sure they threw the rest into the scrap pile after that! So... any idea what it really came out of and will fit

Don't mean to highjack the thread, just wanted to get this question to both of you and this seemed like the easiest way!

John

If that diff would hold 4.10 gears I'd definitely be interested in it, but I won't be satisifed with any other gearings, unfortunetly

Hi. I have a 71 delta 88 with a 12 bolt posi. I also have a brand new clutch kit from gm before they discontinued it. I would perfer to sell the whole rear as it has complete new brakes. I'm looking for 550 for the whole thing. Has the same low 3 gear as in my 71 convertable-I'm also parting out-. I can get exacy gear if asked.Thanks.
