9 inch TH 400 tail shaft housing
Looking for $20 plus shipping. Located in Philadelphia, PA 19115
I bought it a few years ago on eBay for a project and ended up not using it. It's in great shape. Inside is very very very clean, no cracks on body and bolt holes in good shape. It is a 9 inch tailshaft and has been stored inside since I received it.
I have a shipping scale, so I can give an exact shipping quote.

Is the speedometer gear hole in the tailshaft, or the main body? I'm contemplating changing from the wheel-driven speedo to the transmission speedo, and if I can accomplish that by swapping tailshafts, I might be interested.

No, the 400 didn't have the speedo gears in the tailhousing, it was right before the tailhousing in the transmission case itself. The 350 tranny speedo gears are in the tail

Nuts. I never get an easy fix. I did read recently that the switch pitch 400 apparently has some fluid passages in the case that some later-model 400s lack, so I can't necessarily swap cases, either, although it wasn't a "switch pitch only" thing. I do remember from a couple years ago that it would be possible to drill open the port, and even that there is a blank spot where the port should be, but that idea doesn't really sound exciting. I'd probably ruin the case. If it were in the tail shaft housing, I'd maybe give it a shot.
Good luck selling the housing!
