1968 455 short block w steel crank
I posted this locally for sale, figured there may be some interest on here as well although would like to avoid shipping...please keep the thread on topic as many of you are knowledgeable which I appreciate but sometimes ive seen these types of postings take a different turn; The casting # on the crank is 400943 but hard to make out.

Can you post a photo of the crank flange without the flexplate in place? Specifically showing the shape of the notch in the flange. FYI, on a forged crank, that's technically not a "casting" number.

I took a few pics, ...I may have picked up the term casting # just by going of stuff I red but it seems not in the right context, I can sorta make out the number 40049 but not easy to read the last digit which would be 3.

Yup, that's the forged crank. Nice piece. I was pulling your chain on the "casting number" thing. It's a forging, not a casting, so it shouldn't have a "casting" number.

its auto crank, that being said if youre looking to go w manual trans it can be drilled by the shop; alot of threads on the forum that covers this procedure and commonly done.

How does the notch on a forged crank vs a standard or nodular crank compare?

I just sold my 400943 forged crankshaft because I felt the nodular crank thats in my engine now was more than enough for what I do... however I was just looking at pictures on my computer of my 455 engine, it too has the J notch in the crankshaft, Did I really somehow end up with two 400943 crankshafts?!? or do you see this notch on Nodular cranks as well?

Your nodular crank should have numbers on it also. Why not post those pictures up?

Wow, so it would appear I accidentally ended up with 2 455 steel crankshafts. That sure is funny.
