Engine paint

Can engine paint be found in any color? I'd like to paint my engine a dark green, like an old 70's mopar dark green. Would I be able to find something like that or will it have to be made/special order?
How much paint would I need for an engine?
And roughly, what would that cost?
Thanks for the input.

Bill Hirsch will probably have what you need and his engine paint is the best. Of course you might try going to one of your local auto parts stores and looking at their engine paint. You should get by with 2 maybe 3 spray cans.

I don't remember a green. Turquoise maybe? VHT Ceramic engine paint should have all Mopar colors at your local auto parts store.

The green used on the Oldsmobile V8's from 49 through 56 is pretty dark. Eric knows his Mopars pretty well.

Probably 80% were this dark green back then. For a while I was starting to think that was their only color. I guess it's like a dark forest green.

This is what I used on my engine in my 71 98. It seems that they have a few colors that might be close to what you are looking for.

I once had some Ford blue from the 1970s engine paint mixed up at Lowe's. It was done with gloss oil based base paint. They just need a reasonably sized sample of what you want. I brought the lid from the air cleaner. They were able to match it well. They can mix quarts or gallons. The cost is reasonable. This will work if you don't need aerosol cans. I brushed it.

You really do not need engine paint. I have used these paints very successfully on engines: Centari (with hardener), single stage urethane, base/clear, Imron (polyurethane), and even House of Kolor urethane Candy and Pearls. You need to stay away from lacquers, though, even lacquer primer. The paints will stick better and hold up better, if you use a primer, too. You dont' really have to, on the cast iron parts, but it comes out better, if you do. I use etch primer for just a light coat before paint, or epoxy if I want it to help smooth the surface out more.

I've had good luck with Dupli-Color Ceramic engine paint:
