can the impossible be done?????
I have alot of projects going on at the moment. I am really considering putting an oldsmobile 455 into a 1984 camaro z28. I just do not know whether or not it will really fit or what lengths I will have to go through to make it fit. I do not want to get started on the project only to find out that it is an impossible feat. Can this be done? Has someone ever heard of this type of engine swap taking place? If so, what all had to be done to achieve this feat? I would go with a chevy 350, but I like oldsmobile big blocks and don't mind putting in the work to get the job done

455 in a Camaro
Hey Toon,
That sounds like a worthy project to me! I bet it will go pretty easy.
If memory serves me (?) Olds produced a body size equal to your
Camaro.It had a large V8 (maybe a "442" ?) and I bet they used the
same basic frame and front suspension as the Camaro.Maybe stiffer
front coil springs for the heavy engine.
If you can find one of those Olds coupes for sale, and examine the
front frame and undercarriage, and compare it to your Camaro, maybe
you can tell if they are about the same.Check how the motor mounts
are set up on the Olds, and get a welding shop to fabricate some that
are as similar as you need them.
I bet it will slip right in! If you can find the right model Olds in a wrecking
yard to take measurements off of,you can probably also buy some
crossover parts off the wreck that fit right up to your car.
Speedway Motors (www.speedwaymotors.com (I think)) has a technical
staff that sometimes can help with conversion questions.
