E - brake cable removal

Ok - I give up. is there a trick to getting the e-brake cable through the firewall / frame to free it from the car?? It's the last piece of the puzzle and the body is ready to come off.
It's my '64 cutlass.

What part can't you get out? Is it the little bird cage shaped part... If so; from the inside push out, place a box wrench over it to depress the flanges then push and wiggle it through. It's the same as when you take them off of your rear backing plates.

Or use a small hose clamp on the fingers and tap gently with a hammer!

I used a 6-pt 9/16" deep well socket to compress the fingers and free the cables from my backing plates. I'm attempting to do the same on the cable to the pedal under the dash, but can't quite get the leverage to pull it through. Might need to open the can-'O-hammer next.

Perfeck. I thought perhaps it was a squeeze and push situation - thanks for the tips. No more excuses for me now...

Thanks Joe,
I'll guess O'reillys will have one.
